Four generations of master craftsmen carrying forward a legacy of excellence
Founded in 1944 in the heart of Vermont's Green Mountains, CraftWood began as a small family workshop where Samuel Thornton crafted furniture for his local community. What started with a few hand tools and a passion for woodworking has grown into a heritage workshop renowned for exceptional craftsmanship.
Today, Samuel's great-grandson leads our team of master craftsmen, each trained in the time-honored techniques that have been passed down through four generations. We still work from the same workshop, though it has grown to accommodate our expanded operations while maintaining the intimate, hands-on approach that defines our craft.
Every piece that leaves our workshop carries with it the accumulated wisdom of 80 years of woodworking excellence. We don't just build furniture – we create heirlooms that will be treasured for generations to come.
“Every piece of wood has a story to tell. Our job is to honor that story while crafting something beautiful and useful.”
- Samuel Thornton, Founder
The principles that guide every piece we create
Every piece is crafted by skilled artisans who have dedicated years to perfecting their craft.
We source our wood responsibly and use sustainable practices in every step of our process.
Each piece is created with love and attention to detail, as if it were for our own family.
Four generations of knowledge and tradition flow through every creation we make.
From forest to forever – the journey of every CraftWood piece
We hand-select premium hardwoods from sustainable sources, examining each piece for quality and character.
Using traditional techniques and modern precision, our craftsmen shape, join, and finish each piece by hand.
Multiple coats of hand-rubbed finish protect the wood while enhancing its natural beauty.
We believe that true craftsmanship means responsibility to future generations. That's why we source all our wood from sustainably managed forests and work with suppliers who share our commitment to environmental stewardship.
100% of our hardwoods come from FSC-certified sustainable sources
We reclaim and repurpose wood whenever possible, giving new life to old materials
Our workshop runs on renewable energy and minimizes waste at every step
For every tree used, we support reforestation initiatives that plant 10 more
